Greens Duck the Truth, Again

Shooters and Fishers Party MLC Mr Robert Borsak has called upon Victorian Greens MPs and other misled duck rescue teams and protesters at the opening of the Victorian 2011 duck hunting season to learn some history and understand that it was hunters, not paper greens or animal rights activists who fought for, established and funded the creation of the reserves they now cherish as duck havens.

It was and still is the Conservation Hunters of Victoria that do the real hard work when it comes to Conservation, not the urban Greens.

Mr Borsak said, "The real irony is that the wildlife reserves in northeastern Victoria were funded by Game Hunting Licenses and hunters lobbied and fought for their preservation."

"It defies belief that Victorian Greens are ignorant of these facts, as well as the basic biology of ducks which have had significant breeding activity in Victoria and elsewhere in the past two and half years. But then, the Greens and the truth are often strangers," added Mr Borsak.

"Duck numbers have recovered after a number of significant breeding events with all the flooding and rain experienced in recent years.

“The Department of Sustainability and Environment in Victoria should be congratulated for opening a duck hunting season based on sound scientific data. Duck hunters will also provide a significant boost to the regional economies shattered by recent floods,” said Mr Borsak.

"The general public and the vast majority of people are sick and tired of lies, sensationalism and misinformation promulgated by extremist green and animal rights groups. This anachronistic practice of the Greens should be banned, not sustainable duck hunting," said Mr Borsak.
