  • Greens' Hysteria Increases

Thursday 24th March 2011, Greens candidate David Shoebridge put out an hysterical press release about the increase in numbers of firearms in NSW over the last year.

“In the release Mr Shoebridge quoted figures he said came from the National Coalition for Gun Control, a phantom run by two stirrers and known for its lies and misrepresentation[s],” Mr Robert Borsak, NSW Shooters and Fishers Party MLC said.

“There was a very adverse report about the NCGC in Hansard 2004 and Wikipedia notes that “The NCGC has no website or public contact details and does not solicit public membership and may in fact not have any members at all,” Mr Borsak explained

“Mr Shoebridge should know better than to publicly quote such a disreputable source, doesn’t he have any regard for his reputation,” Mr Borsak asked

The Greens claim that there was an increase of 14 000 in the numbers of licenced firearm numbers in the last year. If they are right, that’s 14 000 new shooters across NSW.

“No wonder this annoys the Greens. Thanks to the rigorous process with which licences are granted, that’s 14 000 of the best, most reputable, mums, dads, families, professional and everyday people of NSW”, Mr Borsak noted.

“Add over 1.25 million people The Shooters and Fishers Party currently represents and you can see how this dwarfs the Greens base,

“What’s more these people are committed to their sport and the Party that understands and supports their lifestyle and recreational choices,” Mr Borsak explained

In the release, Mr Shoebridge recognised the effectiveness of the S&F Party and the amendments it has proposed to NSW gun laws.

“What is clear here is that the amendments do not weaken the NSW gun laws, but streamline them and remove government costs and red tape,

“What Mr Shoebridge ignores is that all of the amendments were proposed by S&F but were delivered by a majority in the Parliament, an organisation charged with delivering what is best for the democratic majority and well being of the people of NSW,” Mr Borsak added

“The Greens call on Barry O’Farrell to bend to their misguided will. The voters of NSW know that Barry O’Farrell and the major parties won’t listen to this tripe, and that the voters themselves are pretty bored with the Greens noisy carping,” Mr Borsak concluded.
