Shooters and Fishers Party MLC, the Hon. Robert Brown, today welcomed what he said was the belated acceptance by the Greens of the legitimacy of private ownership of firearms.
He said however, the Greens firearms spokesman David Shoebridge, now wants to limit the number of firearms licensed shooters and hunters can own.
"We will strongly oppose any moves by the Greens to limit our participation in hunting or target shooting, which are both heavily regulated legitimate and legal activities.
"It is wrong for the Greens to claim law abiding shooters can accumulate unlimited firearms without scrutiny. Shooters are the most heavily regulated and 'checked' people in the community.
"The Greens have suffered relevance deprivation since the last election and will continue to be marginalised whilst ever their policies and social agendas are so far removed from the economic and social reality that faces the average person in the street.
"They don't understand that most people need to work for a living, and the Green's 'shut it down or lock it up' attitude to almost everything can have only disastrous outcomes for the hard working people of New South Wales," Mr Brown said.
