At our request the Firearms Registry has clarified the situation with regard to the sighting-in of firearms on rural land. License holders can shoot targets on their own property, or other rural properties for the purpose of sighting-in, practising and testing their firearms, however, they cannot set up permanent target ranges on their rural land for the purpose of social activities, unless such ranges are approved by the Firearms Registry.
Holders of Recreational Hunting/Vermin Control licences are also entitled to use shooting ranges for sighting-in, firearm familiarisation, testing of ammunition and target practice.
Firearm owners also need to observe public safety when sighting-in/practising on rural land
