Secret Deals
Coles produce an advertising magazine which they hand out at supermarkets. In one edition they state that they have entered into an agreement with the WWF about seafood. Before they stock any new product they will check to see whether it is a sustainable type of seafood.
They don't go into the details of their deal (no not with the World Wrestling Federation) with the World Wildlife Fund. Presumably they disclosed this information to bolster their "green" credentials to the consumer. However, one might well ask where does the WWF get off making deals with publicly listed companies operating more or less retail food oligopolies in Australia.
It is time the World Wildlife Fund came clean about its under the counter dealings with corporations in this country. Next time you find that you can't buy something at Coles, you might have to ask whether some back room eco boffin has put it on the supermarket no buy list.
