Proposed St Ives Rifle Range
As many already know, the NSW Gun Club operates a clay target range at Terrey Hills near St Ives, and there is a local pistol club in the area. An application was lodged with the Warringah Council to open a 100 metre centrefire rifle range at St Ives.
Local residents lodged objections. One objector sought to argue that it would be invalid to grant the application because it was inconsistent with the future development for the area. I suppose his idea of future development might be different from other people's ideas. Perhaps there are some who view St Ives as having a future as the new Malabar of the northern districts.
There was at one point in the 90s a small bore rifle range which I think was located somewhere just south of the Manly Golf course, in a suburban residential area. It was something like a 25 metre range and it wasn't indoors either.
" As nightfall does not come all at once, neither does oppression. In both instances, there is a twilight when everything remains seemingly unchanged. And it is in such twilight that we all must be most aware of change in the air — however slight — lest we become unwitting victims of the darkness.
