Sadly banning things does not stop criminals from doing their thing. This offender needs to sentenced to the full extent of the law.

THE arrest of a Lake Macquarie man allegedly in possession of a crossbow, an AR-15 semi-automatic firearm and more than 1000 rounds of ammunition has prompted police to warn other gun owners to take precautions.
Firearms and Organised Crime Squad detectives arrested the Toronto man after raiding a Blackalls Park property on Tuesday.

The raid had followed a tip to police regarding a semi-automatic rifle allegedly being sold online.

Strike Force Dareen detectives, who focus on recovering weapons believed to be used or sold into organised crime, dug deeper into the tip and discovered the rifle’s alleged seller was unlicensed to possess that weapon.

Searching the Harrowgate Parade scene, police confiscated an ****nal that allegedly included the rifle being sold online, a crossbow with a scope, 14 pistol magazines and more than 1000 rounds of ammunition.

None of the items was secured as required by law, police will allege.

A 25-year-old Toronto man was also arrested at the scene, with Firearms and Organised Crime Squad detectives cancelling his gun licence.

That cancellation led to officers confiscating a further 32 handguns and three long-arm rifles which were legally owned and stored at the property.

Firearms and Organised Crime Squad commander Detective Superintendent Ken Finch said the seizures should be a message to other gun owners.

‘‘This serves as an important reminder to gun owners that police will not tolerate any deviation from the strict requirements of the Firearms Act,’’ Detective Superintendent Finch said.

‘‘Breaches of these requirements will result not only [in] cancelled permits, but the seizure of all guns legitimately owned by the licence holder.’’

The 25-year-old man will face Toronto Local Court on January 25 next year.

He will face charges of possessing an unauthorised firearm and several counts of possess prohibited weapon without permit.
